Digital Rare Book :
Tod's Annals of Rajasthan - The Annals of the Mewar
Abridged and edited by C.H.Payne
Published by E.P.Dutton & Co., New York - 1920
Today's versions are better because the footnotes reveal where the Author is playing to the gallery by being biased as most of his knowledge of history was based on hearsay and the existing records of the Rajput Kingdoms. These books in the vernacular from which the information was gleaned from and so also the tales of of valour sung by the bards and traditional caste musicians. And of course all those were replete with eulogies and encomiums.
I am certainly not discounting this treatise /magnum opus.
The word Rajasthan is derived from Todd's work only. The province that comprised 19 kingdoms alongwith centrally governed Ajmer Merwara (both in the Mughal and the British period) was earlier called Rajputana.
In any case he has been candid about calling his work "Annals".
what a spectacularly beautiful sketching.thanks rbsi.
@Digvijay, where can I get a historically acurate view of the Rajputs? I own Tod's book.
