Salim Ali, distinguished ornithologist from India.
Unforgettable -- meeting with Dr Salim Ali when he came to photograph and record the calls of birds of Andaman & Nicobar Islands in 1979
awesome!! gawked at pics from this book in school
Som forty years back, as a lad of 17 (but curious about birds from age 13), I chanced across a brand new copy of this book in a local bookstore. That copy, still with me, which became my vad mecum on every outing and an old pair of binocs, also still with me, that my dad rustled up for me lit up what was until then a dazzling but mysterious line of enquiry = too many splashes of colour and too little idea abut which bird was which.
My subsequent acquaintance with the great man (became a Life Member at BNHS in mid 70's and also his neighbour in Pali Hill in the 80's) and with other leading lights of the Society were only an added bonus. Nothing could match my delight, at age 17, in getting hold of that book that opened up an until then fascinating but mysterious world.
grand old man
I too have gone with a pair of binocs. (Brand new and sophisticated too).By the time I could focus they were gone. The pics in the book are really great and cover in more detail than what can one normally see in nature
most pics could be used by Getty Images. Theyre are awesome!
