Shekhar ..you've raised a very interesting point . However ( and this is perhaps in the realm of conjecture ) I am sure there were Indians with 'missionary zeal' even in those days - who passed on 'unhonoured and unsung' .
But then , you're absolutely right ..throughout the length and breadth of India ..we do have a staggering wealth of tradition . That ,sadly, few have even the time for - so much as but a 'passing glance' !
Which , is why the unpaid chroniclers like P.Thankappan Nair ( of Calcutta ) and Muthiah ( of Madras) ..are among the truest 'Bharat Ratnas' ..if you ask me !
However try telling that to a people obsessed with ' Cricket' , "Computers' ..and of course Bollywood .. who're blinded by their new found prosperity !
