I am reading the Harappan World circa 3000-7000 BC from John Keay- India the History.
In ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia the rulers, flush with money and labour, lavished on magnificent temples, palaces and tombs. The masses were living in mud huts. But in Mohenjo Daro the general population lived in brick houses with amenities of running water and sewage. No traces of grandiose building erected.
