Digital Book :
Translation of Several Principal Books, Passages, and Texts of the Veds, and of some Controversial Works on Brahmunical Theology
By Sir Rajah Rammohun Roy
Published by Parbury Allen & Co., London - 1832
While one could have no doubt as to the scholarship of Sir Rajaram Mohan Roy, as we had learnt that he knew with facility the Classical languages- Hebrew Arabic Persian and Sanskrit along with Modern Lagauges like English, French and the like. But there is a statement that is attributed to him that is rather put-offish... where he has averred that English education is a must for Indians because if we only continued the Vedic or the classical education we will still be in the Dark Ages... That was the greatest understatement coming from someone of his scholarship. Contrast him with Shri Aurobindo, who was bred to be English like in his education and manners but he came back to his Indian roots to such a deeper extent that he discovered the treasure house that was The Vedas...
Sorry about the delay....I remember reading that one of his books written to combat customs was later challenged for selective quoting at the instance of the Serampore school...am travelling so will dig out the references and send you...
