J. William Grant's bungalow at Cawnpore - 1814.

Watercolour of a bungalow at Kanpur from 'Views by Seeta Ram from Cawnpore to Mohumdy Vol. IV' produced for Lord Moira, afterwards the Marquess of Hastings, by Sita Ram between 1814-15. Marquess of Hastings, the Governor-General of Bengal and the Commander-in-Chief (r. 1813-23), was accompanied by artist Sita Ram (flourished c.1810-22) to illustrate his journey from Calcutta to Delhi between 1814-15.
Kanpur (Cawnpore) located along the Ganges river, was visited by Lord Moira enroute from Calcutta to Delhi in October 1814. In Kanpur, Lord Moira stayed at J. William Grant's bungelow, as illustrated here. J. William Grant became Collector of Cawnpore 1809 and was supposed to have moved on the Gorakhpur in 1811; he died at the latter place in 1815.View of a bungalow at Kanpur, with a tiled roof and a large circular drive and well laid out grounds - a carriage is proceeding to the house.
