I prefer to read his son S Gopal .... whom I knew well in the 20 years before his death .... a wonderful man .... and a wonderful writer .... his brand of political history ("kings" & kingmakers & their policies and imperatives) is now undeservedly and ignorantly considered passe .... too much subaltern stuff focusing on the minutiae and with an ideological bias .... that is the problem .... but the historical landscape is changing and I think narrative history with its grand sweep is coming back .... gradually .... will post more about Gopal sometime .... soon ....
