They are travelers. Notice the bundle in the foreground. Rahul Sankrtayan has written about women satisfying their wanderlust through religious pilgrimages in his GHUMAKARI SHASTRA.

The colors and shades used are amazing.the serenity and sanctity are potrayed so well :)
