I'm sure that I would have found thid interesting if I understood German!!!

I agree! ...but the prints in this seminal book are to die for.

Thanks to Ratnesh Mathur for suggesting this book.

I'll stop being so dismissive, and peruse later!

Most of the people in the drawing don't look like they're from India. Strange.

'Artistic licence' as RBSI said elsewhere :)

And in those days there were a tremendous lot of people from across the seas landing on those coasts - so it may not be too far fetched..

Anyone tried reading The Last Mughal?

Stay digital. Don't buy paper. For 15 years I kept buying this book's maps & plates from antiquarian shops. Then got a reprint copy from AES. Finally ended up buying the first edition dutch book from an auction & was even charged 14.5% of the purchase price as custom's duty by Indian post office ! This is bloody addictive. Stay digital. Hey Philippa we need to get that museum off the ground. Need to get rid of all this old paper from 1672. RBSI is all you need..

I thought we'd all read that - and come to differing conclusions!!!

It's also amazing that the University of California would stick a label on the frontispiece of a 17th century book.
