A Representation of the delivery of the Ratified Treat of 1790 by Sir Chas Warre Malet Bart to his Highness Soneae Madarou Peshwa, in full Durbar or Court as held upon that occasion at Poonah in the East INdies on the 6th,, July 1790.

A large room with corinthian columns and swags of cloth, where Indian and European men, nobles and soldiers are gathered, watching Sir Charles Warre Malet hand a scrolled paper to the Indian ruler sitting in the centre; a shrine with a statue of Ganesh, arched windows and niches other statues of Hindhu deities in the wall to left; after Daniell.

Beautiful.

The hilarious spelling of Shrimant Sawai Madhavrao Peshwe notwithstanding and the several inaccuracies that have been pointed out in the recent past notwithstanding this was the popular media in those days to announce an achievement which is quite sober considering the banners, posters and advertisements we see everywhere!

Another old print is in the museum display at Aurangabad...
