is this building still there or gone..

Dated 1794 means there is hardly any signs of it left by now. Can someone tell which exact area this picture was painted from?

This would not be in India. Somewhere in Ireland acquired by Clive (after his lukewarm return to England) and still exists. The battlefield of Plassey (or Palashi) in Bengal just has a monument, part of it has been washed away by the river Bhagirati.

This looks like Clive House at Dum Dum, 4 miles north of Calcutta. To me, it seems unlikely that a House as grand as that would be left uncared or unclaimed in Ireland, judging by its rude surroundings.

Yes Shashi, you may be right. But then the suuroundings has to be a lake and not river.

Yes Arindam sir, that stuck me too. Looks like there is a water body called Motijheel close to the House. It's shrunk quite a bit, but could have been closer to the building 200 years ago as depicted in the painting.

Yes, Motijheel is now quite a fair distance away. The British Heritage were at one time keen to restore the building to its past glory. Rangan Datta , a photoshoot (black & white) and blog on this would be most welcome...maybe you could update us on the current status? Some years back this was inhabited by immigrants who seemed to have lived there more than Clive did.
