Artist: Vigne, Godfrey Thomas, born 1801 - died 1863

Inscribed with title and similarly beneath, and on a separate label Dost Mahomed The father of Shere Ali the present Ameer of Cabul.

Dost Muhammad Khan was Amir of Kabul 1834-40, when deposed by the British in favour of Shah Shuja-ul-Mulk. A watercolour of his favourite horse was in the collection of Mr. Randolph Vigne (with another of Ranjit Singh on horseback).
