The god Vishnu is shown in his incarnation (avatar) as the Fish (Matsya). In this form, Vishnu had helped to save the holy Vedas (scriptures), which had been taken away by a demon to the depths of the ocean.

In Pahari schools like Basohli, Guler Nurpur, Jammu and Kangra there is hardly any trace of courtly Muslim Indian style both in its subject and execution ....
