Village de Catiganawa, à neuf milles de Kandy à Ceylan, habités par les Rodias: exilés du temps des Rois de Kandy - May 1841.

Lithograph of a village nine miles from Kandy in Sri Lanka inhabited by the Rodi tribe by L.H. de Rudder (1807-1881) after an original drawing of May 1841. Prince Aleksandr Mikhailovich Saltuikov and published in Paris in 1848. The Rodi, who are famed for the beauty of their women, were at one time outcasts from society or 'Untouchables' and their history is a mysterious one. They are either the descendants of Princess Ratnavalli or of a tribe of hunters from another location and earned their living by soliciting for alms or by weaving ropes used in the capture of elephants.

Rare Book Society of India Remove this picture, asif hussain is anti Hindustani he insulted our Hindu GODDESSES..........

how did he insult your hindu godessess??...seriously tell me..im curious...

Mr Yadav, you must go back learning more about before telling so much stupidities. Good studies !

And I shared and downloaded and I'll read the book.

@Ivan @Marie: http://www.top-10lists.com/2011/06/top-10-most-controversial-paintings-of.html

Hitesh Yadav what has Asiff Hussein got to do with M F Hussien?

And Mr Yadav, even if M.F. had anything to do with Asif, your call to self-censorship is not at all in keeping with either the spirit of the Hindu tradition or democratic principles. Please think seriously about this - if you are offended by something you see or hear, you do not have to look or listen.

Yadavji kyu char logo mein khud ki beizzati karva rahe ho?

These remind me of old time Malay women. For the present, do these women still wear this attire today? Ha!

Mr Yadav see no evil, close your eyes. And speak no evil, shut your mouth too.

What a beautiful picture!

Beautiful picture. @shaikot shadheen Gods and Godessses with form or form less embody the sentiments of believers. You support ur God and will be offended when some abuses him. Likewise, MF Hussain offended hindu sentiments. Gods (with or without form) can never defend themselves. That's exactly why you have Mujahids. That being said, Yadav just mistook Asif Hussain to MF Hussain. That's all. So, take it easy. And MF Hussain is a spine less bastard for he chose blasphemy to make money and become famous..period. Those who all talk about artistic freedom and precedents in hinduism....your mothers and sisters were born naked (there u have a precedent) and let some goddamn painter paint them nude(in the name of artistic freedom).

Nice painting,...beautifully rendered...

elegant master piece... beautiful art... the fineness and subtle indications of time shown on people is notable..

<> Using a similar analogy, the Govt of a country has the job of removing corruption from public offices. In case you see a corrupt practice, you must I guess look to the other-side for after all, it's not you job but that of the Govt's. Right? A devotee has every right to defend, by any means appropriate and reciprocal to the degree, nature and extent of the perceived affront/threat to his belief-system and/or culture which emanates from the same. * * * BTW, the painting is superb!

interesting

How strange?

This one's for AS(s), right Shipra Verma? :p

Sunil Akerkar U there??

No comments, though I'm extremely comfortable with KS and also very brand loyal (again to KS), the place of discussion isn't very comforting. I hope you both understand this, Shilpa Kaapur and Shipra Verma.

very asthetic n beautiful!!!!

The picture is of the "Rodi" untouchable tribal of Sri Lanka and not of the Hindu Goddess . However,if some one thinks that there is nudity and insult of Hindu's goddess then what about Ajanta and Alora ?

some of the famous temples in India have naked sculptures in so many poses that you can make a coffee shop book of kamasutra. So what is wrong about a nude goddess picture! seriously get a life

this is a beautiful painting. the women seem to be very tall!

Intriguing! Though not based on history, even though aristocratic debauchery is not surprising, this sort of sensationalism is highly unlikely. BTW, nice dress code!

spell check: ELLORA

beautiful

like this

Beautiful.

only one word for the painting is "AWESOME"

beautiful expression

old saying beauty lies in the eyes of beholder only perverts will think it other wise
