Matching headdress and scarf!

its a very unique style of headgear....not visible in this century at all.Maybe it was for a ceremonial purpose,esp. since the lungi is also pink.

Where is his holy thread (janeu) and why is the mark on the fore head missing? Wonder why he is called Malabar?
