: The word 'Burma ' had been derived from Brahma. Earlier the country was known as Brahmadesha. Burma was under the British rule till 1937. Many Indians were based in Burma especially Bengalis. Indians who were born later to 1937 are technically Burmese citizens. Apart from these, Hinduism and Buddhism were the biggest influence on the Burmese society. Indian influence were mainly through the Pallava offshore business interests which is reflected through the statue of Hariti, the Indian version is the Maa Shitala orGoddess of small pox. Besides, Burma is divided into many zones . The Irawaddy river is the main lifeline. But Mandalay is the most beautiful of all of Burma. The biggest wholesale fish market of Asia is in Kayaukpyu which is an island.

Any idea why a hand operated water pump is called "burma" in Hindi?
