I cannot agree with Coomaraswamy on the primacy of Mathura in regard to the Buddha Icon but about his greatness there is no doubt. He can only be compared with A. Foucher. G. Tucci comes next and Schlumberger and Boardman have also enriched us on the mysteries of Buddhist art.
