Image details : Close view of sculptural details at base of front Gopura of the Venkataramana Temple, Tadpatri - 1868 Photograph of the sculpture on the front gopura of the Venkataramana Temple at Tadpatri, taken by Madras School of Industrial Arts around 1868, from the Archaeological Survey of India Collections. This temple complex was built during the Vijayanagara period in the mid-16th century. It is entered through a tall pyramidal tower or gopura in the middle of the east side of a rectangular colonnade. There are some sculptures on the basement and the walls of this ruined tower. This view shows a detail of sculptures on the left of the gateway at the base of the gopura. The main shrine, dedicated to Vishnu, is preceded by a closed mandapa with two porches. The outer walls are decorated with sculptures representing episodes from Krishna and Ramayana legends, set between pilasters. Source : British Library

Too Good!!! I believe, I can say that, even if I haen't read the content of the pdf above... It is Surprising to know that so many ancient (and would have become unknown, had they not been archived) manuscripts are translated, digitized and maintained by Foreign Universities... I am sure even ASI will be having these materials and much much more than these... But, I am not sure if they have been digitized... Thx for sharing, hopefully I find sometime to read (& make out something meaningful out of it) this in my list of never ending ToDo's...

^^^ We trusted our Govt to create conditions to do this, where Indians could pursue their own culture. Unfortunately they were too eager to perpetuate the slave mindset (see quite often by posters on RBSI too) rather than create free thinking individuals who would anew look at the world. The greatest tragedy of our times, and our greatest betrayal.
