Garden House of Mr Trinks the Music Master near Calcutta - 1795

The large garden houses of Calcutta were situated in a fashionable area known as 'Garden Reach' on the banks of the River Hooghly. Charles Trinks (c.1750-1813) was the Music Master and organist of St. John's Church.

Garden Reach Kolkata Once used to be the dwelling place of various princes, Garden Reach, Kolkata is situated on the suburbs of Kolkata city. Positioned on the banks of Hugli River, this popular Kolkata destination is an important station in the city. Being home to the headquarters of South Eastern Railways, this western region of Kolkata has a number of wetland floors in its territory. Delving the past of this locale you will get to know that this place, somewhere in middle ages, was possessed by the rich merchant princes and their affluent acquaintances. Lying close to the southern banks of the river Hooghly, Garden Reach is located at comparably lesser altitude. The total area is replete with water bodies. Since there lays a close proximity of the region to the river that eventually terminates in the Bay of Bengal, it naturally becomes supportive for the navigation and harboring of the ships. The popular Kidderpore docks are located in the precincts of Garden Reach. To name one of the major establishments in the region, one must talk of Garden Reach Ship Building and Engineering—a government undertaking established in the year 1919, which has successfully served for more than 80 years in the field of ship building. There are other establishments as such government offices like the South Eastern Railway Audit Office and South Eastern Railway Traffics Audit Office. Situated in the west of Kolkata, Garden Reach, Kolkata is about 8 kms far from the center of the City of Joy. The Garden Reach Road is connected to the Diamond Harbour Road, the latter providing the primary way to enter the city. Behala Airport, which is the domestic airport of the city, is only 6 kms away and towards the south-west of Garden Reach.
