EW Oates contributed on Burmese birds in Stray Feathers (edited by Allan O Hume), from Vol. III (1875) to Vol. IX (1880).
He wrote the first two volumes (out of a total of four) of Fauna of British India (Birds) as well. On taking charge of the last two volumes, WT Blanford wrote (~1895) “Mr. Oates, after writing the two volumes containing the descriptions of the Passeres, was obliged to return to his appointment in India, as explained in the preface to the second volume."
(Passerines are mostly small Perching birds with feet having toes to allow for gripping the perch; most are songbirds.)
