Digital Rare Book :
The Prince
By Niccolo Machiavelli
Translated into English by Luigi Ricci
Published by Humphrey Mulford, London - 1921

Niccolò Machiavelli’s best-known book concentrates on the possibility of a "new prince", rather than the more traditional subject of an hereditary prince. To retain power, the hereditary prince must carefully maintain the socio-political institutions to which the people are accustomed; whereas a new prince has the more difficult task in ruling, since he must first stabilize his new-found power in order to build an enduring political structure. That requires the prince being concerned with reputation but also being willing to act immorally. As a political scientist, Machiavelli emphasises the occasional need for the methodical exercise of brute force, deceit, and so on.

Mayleen Frias : Pertinent observation. You have essentially understood statecraft ! : )

Unfairly, perhaps, but often compared to Kautilya.

what a gem, thank you!

Thank you. I was just looking for this book by Machiavelli.

The Prince is an ever readable book. But if Machiavelli is to be really appreciated, I would recommend two novels. One, written by Rafael Sabatini (the author of evergreen Sharamouche) on Caesar Borgia and another, surprise - surprise a book called "Secret of Santa Vittoria" (also a film of that name starring Anthony Quinn).

There is a very interesting book on machiavelli and modern management. One of the best its genre.recently i saw a similar book on arthashastra and modern management.these books are more relevant and useful than the so called gurus of modern management

many thanks..was hunting for this one since long
