“If you know yourself and your enemy, you will win many battles.”
That is one of my favorite quotes of Sun-Tzu!!!
Thank you RBSI for posting this!
Another book I would love to suggest is the "Book of Five Rings" by Musashi Miyamoto.
Great. never read it properly but want to do so after my work on Kautilya just to see it in perspective.
Sumer Chauhan : We seem to be thinking on the same lines. I have always considered these 4 books to contain the sum and substance of statecraft, warcraft and polity cutting across all cultures and periods :
1. Art of War - Sun Tzu
2. Book of Five Rings - Miyamoto Musashi
3. The Prince - Niccolo Machiavelli
4. Arthashatra - Kautilya
Never touched #3, but #1,2 and 4....yes! These I know to be true gems, priceless treasures!
Wow RBSI, you have really brought up my spirits today! And awakened so many memories for me when I first read these books and how they were introduced to me.
SC : Machiavelli is a rare genius....'The Prince' is one of the great books...and it is a must read !
Thanks RBSI! Its now on my Christmas reading list!
o appreciate Machiavelli I recommend two novels
1. Caesar Borgia by Rafael Sabatini (the author of evergreenScaramouche) and 2. Secret of Santa Vittoria (Also a film of the same name starring Anthony Quinn).
