Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931) was a Lebanese American of Assyrian descent, an artist, poet and writer. He was born Gibran Khalil Gibran in Lebanon, but He had spent much of his productive life in the United States.
Kahlil Gibran's last book 'The Wanderer' before he died contains parables and peoms which many consider to be amongst his finest :

I first heard of him circa 1960 when a classmate of mine showed me a book by him , that was owned by his father , an avid fan of his works.
Much later, in late 1973, some friends and I, drove through his native village Becharre ..en route to the Cedars.
I read Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet" which is simple and short (quite short for a novel, its a slim book) yet there is immense depth.
Best discribed by George Russel when he wrote: ' I understand better than before what Socrates meant in the ' Banquet' when he spoke of the beauty of form.....From every page, I could find some beautiful and liberating thought'..
