Raja Ravi Varma's painting of Shakuntala pretending to pull out a thorn in her foot-and stopping to look at Dushyanta--is perhaps one of his best in feminine wiles
The painting seen here is also by Ravi Varma and for years was mistaken to be depicting Sita until very recently. It was obviously painted by Ravi Varma almost a century after Jones's translation. But it was the famous Shakuntala Patralekhan painting that was used as a frontispiece in the first edition of Monier William's translation of Kalidasa's epic play. Although this is not available online, the second edition is up for viewing:

Raja Ravi Varma executed a couple of paintings of Shakuntala. Another painting is displayed at Jaganmohan Palace, Mysore.
